From the industry: Crowdfunding

A report on Sort/Hvid's crowdfunding campaign and the perspectives of audience engagement.

The publication also includes examples of other crowdfunding campaigns and other forms of audience engagement abroad, as well as an academic review of the aesthetic potentials of a performing art that invites its audience into its work.

Background:

In 2014, Sort/Hvid burned down. With the fire, the historic CaféTeatret - the stages, the bar, the equipment, the entire building - went up in smoke.

After three years of homelessness, Sort/Hvid, with support from the City of Copenhagen, private foundations and companies, established a brand new theatre with a large foyer and two stages in the brown Meatpacking District in Vesterbro.

To reach their goal, Sort/Hvid was the first theatre in Denmark to launch a crowdfunding campaign where their audience could contribute to realising the vision.
Nearly 400 people and companies signed up under the black and white banner and donated everything from small amounts for a tote bag to furniture like chairs and toilets.

Two years after the opening of Sort/Hvids in Kødbyen, Sort/Hvid has launched a survey of their core audience that supported the creation of Sort/Hvids new theatre.

The results can be read in the publication ET TEATER BRÆNDTE NED. ET NYT ER BYGGET OP.
