UP appoints new leader and creates the role of development producer

22 April 2024: UP's current Administrative Manager, Anne Dalby, changes role to General Manager and the Board of Directors decides to create two new positions to boost UP's operations: a Development Producer and a new Administrative Officer.

Further investment in the independent performing arts scenes

When Anne Dalby takes over as director, it is not only the start of a new era, but also the start of a UP that is organised in a new way. UP is opening a new position to hire a development producer with a focus on developing and strengthening UP's efforts for the independent performing arts communities across the country. The person will focus on performing arts and producer development projects, environmental initiatives and networks, in collaboration with UP's current team. In addition, a part-time administrative employee will be hired to be a coordinating point of contact in UP's building in Copenhagen. The goal is to ensure a smooth and focussed stay for the actors who put working hours and resources into the building.

Consolidation of the organisation

Since 11 March, when it was announced that UP's general manager of four years, Mikkel Harder, was leaving UP to take up the position as director of the Danish Institute in Rome, UP's board has been discussing how UP should be organised in the future so that even more of UP's resources can be invested in the independent performing arts environment, while ensuring optimal conditions for staff, operations and management.

This work has now led to the appointment of a new leader and a new organisation. The board is pleased to announce that UP's new leader will be Anne Dalby.

Tina Tarpgaard, Vice Chairman of the Board of UP, says:

UP is a rapidly developing organisation and a powerhouse for the many performing arts professionals who work every day to develop and innovate the performing arts that so many people across Denmark experience every day. Based in the newly refurbished and beautiful premises in Nørrebro in Copenhagen, we have now set our sights on a stronger focus on improving production conditions for the independent field of performing artists throughout the country. With her strong leadership skills and in-depth knowledge of the industry, Anne is the right person to spearhead this direction. We are incredibly excited to have her as our new general manager and look forward to working with her and the rest of the team at UP.

Anne Dalby has been UP's administrative manager since 1 January 2023 and therefore has in-depth knowledge of UP. She has played a very important role in the establishment of UP's new premises in Nørrebro, which houses both rehearsal rooms and office facilities. Anne Dalby comes with a background as administrative manager at Teater Sort/Hvid and 10 years of experience from the music industry, where she has worked with the independent field of musicians, both through interdisciplinary projects and organisational development work. Anne Dalby will take up the position as General Manager on 27 May 2024.

Anne Dalby is looking forward to taking UP forward. She explains:

UP operates in a field that is constantly changing. Therefore, UP must act according to the current needs of the performing arts and where the independent performing arts are heading. For me, it is therefore important that UP listens to the actors and continuously adjusts our efforts so that we are always on the side of the independent performing arts. If we do this, I believe we will create the best conditions for improving the industry's production conditions and artistic development processes. I am very grateful for the trust the board has shown in me, for the talented team of people who make up UP, and not least for the organisations we work for and with. I am very excited.
